It was the South Plains Fair not long ago, and for the first time, we wandered around the livestock exhibitions. I had not realized just how beautiful chickens can be or how many variations there were out there. And some of the names of the chickens (or are they hens?) just roll off the tongue: Buff Orpington, Sea Bright, Wyandotte, Silkie, Frizzle, Spangled Hamburg…
This was one of my favorites (see pic above). Anyone know which type of chicken this is? A Wyandotte? A type of Bantam? Some other type entirely different? Its feathers look like stained glass and it (he/she?) had all the posing style of an experienced Vogue model. Just beautiful.
